Scratch On
Love/Fear No. 76
Every poem in Hearts on the Line stems from an anonymous person graciously answering two questions: “What is my greatest love?” and “What is my greatest fear?” The rest is just my poetry…
Life Is a Word, and Love Is a Sentence. Scratch. The paper itches, and my pencil’s scritches may bring relief where white can’t reach. In black a back is scribbled. Scratch off and reveal the window white conceals. Peel the seal of what is real and witness all beyond. From scratch it all emerges: a thousand universes. This pencil’s tip, a rocket ship – and Houston is deserted. Scratch away with fervor, though the page is not enough. A scratch is but a metaphor for how you meet the world. Thank You to the Human Spirit…
I would be grateful if you shared your own love and fear on this link…
It’s anonymous and could lead to the next poem!

This person’s greatest love was “drawing.”
Their greatest fear was “that I will never accomplish anything.”
It became a bit of a meditation on they joy of drawing — something I used to feel, in the back of many classrooms.
I like the idea of revelation behind drawing—I see it as that far more than I do a mere rendering. My daughter absolutely loves to draw. I hope she never gives that up. Once again, clever way to weave loves and fears together!
